The second game between Sidwell and Maret was a close contest through three innings. Maret's leadoff hitter hit a two-run homerun in the top of the third to give Maret a 2-1 lead. But, the Quakers confidently bounced back in the bottom half, scoring four to retake the lead by a score of 5-2. Sidwell then scored in each remaining frame, winning by a final score of 14-4 in a game that was shortened due to the 10-run rule.
Starter Kevin Carpenter-Holmes went 5.1 innings, kept free passes to three (only one through five full innings), and earned the win. Reliever Cody Encarnacion was effective out of the pen for the second time this week.
Sidwell's offense was prolific, with every batter reaching base one or more times. Daniel Piho, who led the way as pitcher on Tuesday, did so as a hitter in this game. He recorded three hits, two of which were doubles. Generally, the team did well with two outs and with runners in scoring position. Finally, the defense was excellent with a single throwing error from the outfield marring an otherwise clean performance.
The team is excited and ready for the challenging and pivotal Potomac series scheduled for next Tuesday/Thursday.
