Daniel Piho contributed a pristine start for the Quakers, going 5.1 innings, recording eight strikeouts and allowing a single hit along with four walks. He struck out the side in the fourth on 14 pitches, and he and reliever Cody Encarnacion struck out the side in the sixth, also on 14 pitches.
Five Quakers had multi-hit days, and the team notched 12 hits. Sidwell scored 10 runs, most of them with two outs. Owen Liu-Bailey had a breakout day, going 3-4 and driving two of his hits off right-field wall. Kevin Carpenter-Holmes doubled twice off the wall in center field.
In addition to clean play on routine defensive opportunities, Sidwell had three web gems. Tommy Levy ranged to his left and made a nice throw on the run to end the Maret third, stranding two runners in scoring position. Regular outfielder John McMurray made a play from second base, which he played in Piho's stead today; McMurray snagged a ball in foul territory, well down the right field line, just before running out of play. The difficulty was extreme, and the play could have only been made by a handful of outfielders in the league. Finally, Jay Horton ended the game with a beautiful catch on the run, snagging a ball that may well have otherwise been off the foul pole, 350' down the left field line.
