Sidwell fell in an early hole against Landon, going down 2-0 in the bottom of the first. After that point, much of the game went by quickly, with the Quaker bats quiet, and Sidwell starter Andrew Ludwin retiring 14 of the next 15 Landon batters.
In the sixth inning, the situation changed when Zach Gayer and Nate Carpenter-Holmes started things off with back-to-back singles. Will Koopersmith helped the Quakers plate their first run with an RBI groundout. Will Pryce walked, and Eric Sun reached base on an infield single, with Carpenter-Holmes scoring on an ensuing throwing error. Willie Piho executed a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring Will Pryce. The run ended up being the game-winner, but the Quakers weren't done. Jake Kang hit a sac fly to right on the next at-bat, putting the Quakers up 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Ludwin held the Bears scoreless in the sixth, and Sidwell tacked on four insurance runs in the top of the seventh, with hits from Mikey Levy, Carpenter-Holmes, Koopersmith, and Piho. In the final half inning, Ludwin retired the first batter. The second batter reached on an error, which ended up setting the stage for a terrific finish, as Ludwin induced a ground ball to third on the very next pitch: Piho at third fed Levy at second, who threw to Pryce at first, for a nifty, game-ending 5-4-3 double play.
Ludwin's complete-game gem included exactly 100 pitches, two walks, and three strikeouts.
