The Skinny: After falling behind in the first, Sidwell made a quick turnaround en route to an easy victory over St. Andrews.
Synopsis: The first two runners reached base safely for Sidwell in the top of the first, but were unable to score. St. Andrews plated 2 runners on a 2-out single, but lost the lead in the top of the 2nd and never regained it. The Quaker offense was consistent, scoring 2 or more runs in each inning after the first. Senior CF Finn Stern stood out in particular, going 3-4 with a record-tying 7 RBI and a homerun short of the cycle. In the end, the Quakers put up 20 runs over 5 innings to win by 10-run rule, 20-7.
Junior Matt McLaughlin was the starting pitcher for the Quakers and did a solid job, earning the win after pitching 3 innings. He kept his cool despite surrendering a number of infield hits and some errors that lead to unearned runs. Sophomore Aidan Monheim also pitched well in relief, settling down after giving up an inside-the-park homerun to the first batter he faced.
Analysis: The Quakers did a great job putting the ball in play, not recording a single offensive strikeout. Sidwell's offense was opportune, as each of the 4 extra base hits batted home baserunners. While the Quaker defense was somewhat shaky, making 3 errors, it was overall a solid effort and a good victory.
Looking Ahead: Sidwell has a huge league game with Flint Hill on Friday, and can take a commanding lead in the MAC with a win. Senior Captain Mark Ossolinski will be the starting pitcher and will look for redemption against a team he has started against a number of times but never beaten.
