Sidwell prevailed in a wild one at home against Maret on what ended up being a late night at the ballpark. Walks, errors, and a pesky baby squirrel who was scurrying in and out of the dugouts led to the 3+ hour marathon, ending with the visiting Frogs leaving the bases loaded in the top of the 6th.
Quaker bats put balls in play, primarily to a Frogs infield that couldn’t quite time the hops. With only two hits in the game, both off the bat of outfielder Porter Speece, both in the fifth inning when Sidwell sent 10 to the box, plating seven, Sidwell needed to adjust. The team turned to running the bases well, manufacturing runs where they could, with 11 swiped bags on the day. After five innings, with darkness encroaching, the new 9-6 lead took on water, but it was the glove of first baseman Teddy Friedman that dug out a throw from shortstop Tanner Breslin, ending the threat of a Maret comeback victory.
The win makes five in a row for the streaky Quakers, who host St. Albans on Friday as they approach the tail end of the season.
