Sidwell started a busy week of baseball on the right track, sweeping the season series from GDS, this game by a score of 7-4. Playing from behind after giving up two earned runs in the top of the first, starter Lee Gillies settled in nicely to retire 12 of the next 13 batters, six by the strikeout. The Quakers would chip away at the deficit, before cracking the game open in the 5th and 6th innings, mostly with two outs.
Extra base hits by Gillies, Robby Schooling, and with two strikes in a tight game, reliever George Bankoff, all allowed big runs to score in pivotal moments of the game. The home team Quakers showed poise after a slow start, with plenty of distractions that Mondays can give, and pulled out the big win in a tidy game that took less than two hours to finish.
Sidwell hits the road to Meridian under the lights on Wednesday night.
