Sidwell welcomed Maret for the first game of a Friday/Saturday series on a cool, wet, early-May afternoon. The home team Quakers were able to show off new starters on defense while some of the regulars finished classes for the early 3PM contest. The early start would prove beneficial as storm clouds quietly encroached upon NW DC.
Through 4 innings of work, the visiting Frogs matched the Quakers 2-2 on a relatively clean game with William Friedman equaling the opposing pitcher with a strong showing. Sidwell clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit with a screaming single off the red-hot bat of Robby Schooling, who also caught the game wire to wire in his first catching start of his career. Friedman would help himself out at the plate, doubling off the fence in the bottom of the 5th, to crack open the game for good for the home team Quakers, missing a home run by only a few feet (with calls for more push-ups at practice).
The game ended via time limit after closer Mikey Levy slammed the door and struck out the side in the 6th, just in time for the rain to come and wash the Frogs away. The two teams will look to play it again in the morning.
(The game ended early due to a two-hour time limit.)
