In a topsy-turvy game, Sidwell alternatingly played good, fundamental baseball and made some bad plays. Some situational hitting was great (e.g. base hits with two strikes, base hits with two outs and runners in scoring position) and some was not (e.g. striking out looking with runners in scoring position). Some baserunning was great (e.g. hustling out ground balls to first and forcing hasty plays and errors, scoring on a contact play from third with their infield in and a sharply hit ball to the shortstop) and some was not (getting thrown out twice at third base with two outs, neither time when a steal was on). Some fielding was outstanding (e.g. beautiful plays to take away hits, preventing the winning run from scoring from second on a base hit to center field) and some was not (a number of costly errors on straight-forward plays). Some play was clutch (e.g. scoring two in the top of the 7th to take a one-run lead) and some was not (e.g. failing to secure the win after coming from behind in the last inning).
So, this game represented progress over the performances leading up to spring break -- but was still flawed enough to fall short of earning a win.
