In a stronger effort than the one from Friday's game, Sidwell showed some fight and resilience -- coming back from a 6-1 deficit to pull within one run in the sixth inning. In the sixth, doubles by Spenser Hyun and Logan Matthiesen and singles by Bennet Tierney and Victor Doddy all contributed to a big inning, with all four runs coming as part of an impressive two-out rally.
The Quakers' pitching was solid (Matthiesen threw three innings; Max Johnson-Fradin threw three as well.)
Defense again was a weak spot, with unearned runs accounting for five of Bullis' eight runs. One big time highlight, however, came with one out and a runner on third in the bottom of the second: the Bullis batter ripped a line drive between shortstop and third base, but Hyun at short reacted quickly and made a horizontal diving catch -- and then easily doubled the runner off of third to end the inning.
With improved offense and defense, the outing included progress to be proud of -- but work remains.
