Buoyed by great pitching by Luke Friedman and Derek Levinson, Sidwell survived a few errors and three unearned runs to come back from a 3-0 deficit to beat St. Albans 7-6 in the front end of an afternoon double-header.
Going into the top of the 5th inning, the outlook was bleak for Sidwell: having only managed two hits in the first four innings, trailing by three runs was significant. Immediately, Chase Migas got things going with a line-drive single to left field and a stolen base. Next Chris Stevens managed to get on with a hard hit groundball to third base. After Friedman popped out, the next five batters reached base on three walks and two hits, the hits coming from Sam Lipscomb (2 RBI) and Shane Tierney (1 RBI). After Justin Margolin recorded the second out of the inning, Migas was up again, this time drawing a bases-loaded walk. Chris Stevens then drove in the final two runs of the inning with a single. Luke Friedman popped out again for the third out, but his contributions on the mound more than made up for the two outs recorded in Sidwell's big 5th inning.
Though slim, a two-run lead was all Derek Levinson needed to close out the game for the Quakers and earn the save. He allowed only one hit in the two innings he pitched, and was dominant in the 7th, striking out the final two batters of the game. On the defensive side, once the Quakers had the lead, they were aided by the stellar play of Justin Margolin, who, at second base, caught two pop-ups in shallow right field and made two great plays on tough-to-handle ground balls in the fifth and sixth innings alone.
