The Skinny: Sidwell hit the ball solidly all game against a strong Potomac team, but couldn't string together enough hits until the 6th, when they came storming back to score 7 runs, winning the game 8-5.

Synopsis: Sidwell came out hot offensively, loading the bases with 0 outs in the bottom of the 1st. But after a line-drive double play, the Quakers only mustered a single run. Potomac hit the ball in the 3rd, but Senior Pitcher Mark Ossolinski controlled the bleeding, allowing only 3 runs in the 2nd. Sidwell consistently got runners on base throughout the game, but in the middle innings their hitting was remarkably untimely, scoring no runs despite getting multiple runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs multiple times. But it was only a matter of time before the Quaker offense exploded.

In the bottom of the 6th, Chase Plebani lead off with a key walk. After Elie Goldman, pinch running for Plebani, stole 2nd, Brett Perrin followed with a massive tomahawk double to right field, scoring Goldman. Wes roman then sacrificed Perrin to 3rd. This brought up the top of the order with only 1 out and Perrin, the tying run, on 3rd, with the Quakers down 3-2. Nick Roman followed with a HBP, his 2nd of the game, and Finn Stern drew another walk to load the bases. Then Senior Captain Sam Stevens drove in 2 with a huge double to right-centerfield, giving Sidwell the lead, 4-3. After Stern scored on a passed ball, Junior SS David Steinbach worked the count until he found a pitch he liked, and hit a colossal 2-run homerun, one of the longest Sidwell has ever seen on its home field, over the left-centerfield fence. Coach Jon Mormino estimated the bomb at nearly 400 ft.

But Sidwell still wasn't finished. Not to be outdone, Senior Nick Fernandez smashed the 2nd pitch he saw well over the rightfield fence, breaking in two any remaining hopes Potomac had of winning the game.

Mark Ossolinski finished off the game pitching effectively with a lead, throwing strikes and getting the Quakers the win, 8-5.

Analysis: Sidwell hit the ball well all game, and their big 6th inning rally was long overdue. Potomac's pitchers were no pushovers, but Sidwell took some excellent approaches at the plate, striking out only twice. Extra-base hits were crucial for Sidwell, hitting 4 in their 6th inning rally.

Defensively, Sidwell did commit 3 errors, but none was too costly, as Ossolinski got himself out of jams all game long in what was a magnificent start. The Senior pitcher has dominated Potomac in his career, going 2-0, posting a 2.58 era with 21 K's over 19 innings. Ossolinski's use of offspeed pitches was particularly effective on this day, surrendering only 1 of his 7 hits allowed on breaking balls.

Looking Ahead: This was a huge win for Sidwell, keeping them near the top of the MAC standings. It also gives Sidwell an outside chance at a share of a 4-way split banner, should Sidwell take care of business against St. Andrews and GDS at home this coming week, and should Potomac manage to beat Flint Hill and Maret in its final two contests.
