Sidwell emerged victorious in an exciting back and forth affair. Sophomore Chase Plebani started the game in his first varsity appearance. He worked three innings, striking out six, walking two, and allowing a single unearned run.

In the top of third, the Quakers scored their first run when Sam Stevens doubled over the left fielder to score Finn Stern -- tying the game 1-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Aidan Monheim relieved Plebani, and the first three hitters for Riverdale reached base on two errors and a hit -- loading the bases for the top of their order. Monheim worked Riverdale's leadoff batter to a 1-2 count, and, on the fourth pitch of the at-bat, a line drive hit at shortstop David Steinbach resulted in a double play. The next batter hit an RBI single to right field, but Nick Fernandez was able to end the inning by throwing out the runner trying to reach third from first.

In the fifth Sidwell scored twice off of doubles hit by Wes Roman, Matt McLaughlin, and Stevens. Riverdale answered back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs off of a few hits and some sloppy defense, pulling ahead 5-3.

Sidwell scored three runs in the top of the sixth. It was a chaotic inning which started off with a hit by Steinbach and walks drawn by Eli Goldman and Monheim. A few ground balls and errors left Sidwell in the lead, 6-5, going into the bottom of the sixth. Monheim held the Crusaders scoreless in the sixth and Sidwell was unable to add any insurance runs in the top of the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7th, Stern came in to close for the Quakers. He walked the first batter, but drew a fly ball on the next at-bat to right field. Nick Fernandez caught the ball in shallow right field and fired to Stern who was running over to cover first. Stern made an incredible pick and stomped on the base to record the second out of the inning. The next batter walked and the following batter singled. With runners on first and second, he then worked ahead of the next hitter 1-2 and then struck him out swinging with a curveball to earn a well-deserved save and a hard fought victory for the team.
