The JV Quakers got off of the early-season slide at the right time, on the eve of spring break, to secure the first victory of the 2024 season, against the rival Frogs from Maret. Starting pitcher Owen Liu-Bailey, finishing with nine strikeouts through four innings and a cool 60 pitches, paced the defense, while Sidwell turned a good practice the day before into frequent balls in play, scoring a season-high nine runs on the day, in a would-be exciting 9-7 finish.
Leading the offense for the day was Liu-Bailey, batting out of the leadoff spot and going 2-2 with a double, adding a walk for good measure. Also, while Ari Gedan and Jake Levine would each add a pair of RBI on the day, it was the big bat of first baseman Cody Encarnacion notching his first homerun of the season with a moon shot over the tall right-field fence at Jelleff Recreation Center that would fire up the bench with a charge this Sidwell team very much needed.
The Quakers hit the road on Friday and return after what should be a great work trip down to the Palmetto State.
