The home team Quakers took a bite out of the visiting Bulldogs of neighboring St. Albans on another clear sky springtime Friday afternoon to stay a perfect 3-0 on the week, riding a six-game win streak into the weekend.

After letting up a run in the second inning, starting pitcher George Bankoff worked quickly and did more than enough for the sound Sidwell offense to manufacture runs. Down one run in the bottom of the second, Teddy Friedman, after having rifled a leadoff double down the line in rightfield and taking third on a wild pitch, would knot-up the score at 1-1 via the sacrifice fly from third baseman and RBI machine Daniel Piho. From there, starting right fielder Alex Fagell would draw a walk and make his way into scoring position with aggressive, two-out baserunning, putting enough pressure on the defense to score on a ball in play by shortstop Cody Encarnacion, giving the Quakers a 2-1 lead and one that the home team wouldn’t give up.

Bankoff, pitching well through four solid innings, walking one and striking out a pair. He consistently gave the defense routine plays to make behind him before turning the ball over to the ever-ready Tanner Breslin, who finished the final three frames. All seven innings were played in under two hours, a preferred length as compared to the marathon game played on Wednesday.

The busy Quakers welcome a few days of rest ahead of a solid week of practice and a road game, under the lights, at Meridian on Wednesday.
