After a few cancellations by opponents on account of wind and rain (i.e., typical March weather in the Mid-Atlantic), the JV Quakers were eager to get back on the field after a solid week of practice, welcoming the uptown Georgetown Day School Grasshoppers, who were up for a game after a short trek down Wisconsin Avenue.

Under cloudy skies, Sidwell would open the scoring in the top of the first inning (as the ‘away’ team, while hosting) with a rocket shot off the bat of third baseman Porter Speece into the right center field fence, scoring a pair of courtesy runners, Stephen Koopersmith and Alex Fagell, after hits from catcher Eli Berman and starting pitcher Tanner Breslin.

Those few runs were all Breslin and the rest of the Quaker arms would need, facing 5 more than the minimum all day for the combined one-hit shutout victory, striking out 10 Hopper batters along the way. After Breslin worked his way into the win column after four innings (needing only 55 pitches to get there), George Bankoff and Cody Encarnacion would work around a few walks and eliminate any Hopper threats of runs, finishing the game in under two hours.
