On a day where a baseball game was anything but guaranteed with thunderstorms in the forecast, Sidwell welcomed GDS to kick off a holiday weekend. In the first inning, as has been the case in 10 of the other 13 games played up to this point, the Quakers spotted the opponents an early tally, this time via the dreaded unearned run. The deficit wouldn’t last long, however, with leadoff hitter Jackson Fauvre depositing a fastball over the right field fence, halfway across Quebec Street, for the first homerun of his high school career. The no-doubter sprung the rest of the Quaker bats in the opening frame, including a two-RBI single from starting third baseman Lee Gillies. The Quakers ran through the order and plated 7, not with power, but with control, as line drive singles and sharp ground balls found ways to the outfield.

Short swings make baserunners, and baserunners win ballgames, and the Quakers seemed like they found the recipe right out of the gate behind first-time starter Briley Ward, who threw strikes through three full innings while only allowing a single hit. In what looked initially like a runaway, visiting GDS would capitalize on Sidwell falling back on old habits via plate appearances resulting in lazy fly balls. The Grasshoppers would play an error-free game on defense while scratching out two more runs in the 2nd, and three in the 6th, to pull within one run as storm clouds loomed overhead.

With the top of the GDS order up to bat, reliever William Friedman calmly took to the mound and retired the Grasshoppers in order for an exciting 7-6 win for the home team. Not long after the last pitch, storm clouds would open up over Northwest DC, dropping almost an inch of rain in the hour after the Quakers washed the Grasshoppers away. Sidwell finishes the season with a home and home against Wilson after the holiday.
